A wizard, a stranger, and a gem that broke into worlds.
Long ago the wizard Mondain forged the Gem of Immortality, and with it made himself untouchable. Sosaria suffered under him for years.
Then a Stranger arrived from another world, found the way into Mondain's past, and destroyed him before the Gem could protect him.
When the Gem was broken, it did not simply crack. Each fragment held a complete copy of the world — a shard. Every shard is Britannia, whole and real, and each one goes its own way.
Lord British rules Britannia from his castle, and the land is shaped by the eight virtues of the Avatar. Shrines, moongates and the dungeons of the anti-virtues mark the map from end to end.
Not everyone agrees with his rule. There are always those who find the virtues a cage.
Our shard is one more fragment catching the light. Its story starts on launch day, and the people who live in it will write the rest.
